Caobas, robles, acacias y decenas de variedades de matas con 30, 50 y hasta 100 años de existencia, fueron derribadas por órdenes del alcalde de Las Yayas, Antonio Soto, en el centro de este poblado sureño. Una acción catalogada por la comunidad como crimen ecológico.
Grupos de esta comunidad hicieron la denuncia al director ejecutivo del Comando Internacional de Apoyo a Hipólito Mejía, Plinio D'Oleo, quien dijo que observó atónito la destrucción masiva de los árboles centenarios y tomó imágenes de algunos.
"Los moradores de Las Yayas no se explican los motivos que impulsaron al síndico Antonio Soto y a activistas del PLD para hacer ese daño ecológico irreparable a este pueblo", dijo Plinio D'Oleo.
D'Oleo, manifestó que indagó si los comunitarios denunciaron la situación ante las autoridades de Medio Ambiente y respondieron: "Toda esa gente es del PLD y se tapan uno con otro".
